FOREST CITY — Free music will highlight the annual Puckerbrush Days July 13-16.

"The big thing is our sponsors all stepped up and all of the entertainment for the whole weekend is free," said Scott Meinders, the entertainment chair.

DJs and live bands will perform July 13-16 on the K St. stage. The Hats, of Mason City, will lead off on Thursday, July 13. Local band, Gilbert Goldsmith, will open Friday, July 14, for Pianopalooza.

The band will be making a return appearance to Puckerbrush. Last year, the dueling piano band performed on Saturday night.

"We had a good crowd last year on Friday night, so we're focusing our biggest efforts on Friday night," Meinders said.

Andy Koester & The Skunk River Band, a country cover band, will perform Saturday night before the fireworks.

A beer garden will be held all three days of Puckerbrush on Clark Street. An open area will also be set up in front of Paddler's Tap and Ay Jalisco.

"People can bring their kids as well and come and hang out," Meinders said.

Kevin Mason, special events chair, said there are plenty more activities to enjoy all weekend long.

A pet parade will highlight Thursday, July 13. Mason said those interested in showing off their dressed up pets can sign up on the Forest City Chamber of Commerce's website. People can also sign up the day of the event.

Another new event is the bean bag tournament on Saturday, July 15. The tournament is sponsored by MBT Bank.

"It should be a good addition to the event," Mason said.

The Forest City YMCA is sponsoring a sand volleyball tournament on July 15 at the courts in Boman Park.

The Puckerbrush committee is sponsoring a Bill Riley Talent Search Competition for the first time on Saturday, July 15. Mason said participants are still needed. Those interested need to be signed up by July 9.

Registration forms and more information can be found at http://www.forestcityia.com/calendar/puckerbrush-days.

Forest City Chamber Director Kathy Rollefson said there are still plenty of classic events on the Puckerbrush schedule.

The kids fishing tournament, parade, fireworks and Rotary chicken barbecue will be back on Saturday, July 15. This year's parade theme is Vegas Fun.

Sunday, July 16 will again feature breakfast at the airport and the Heritage Festival.

"I encourage people to check and see what we have every day," Rollefson said. "We tried reaching all age levels with the offerings through the weekend."
