Whitesidewalls

The Whitesidewalls will play for the Winter Dance Party Family Sock Hop on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the Surf Ballroom.

CLEAR LAKE | The always-popular Whitesidewalls will kick off this year's Winter Dance Party, playing for the WDP Family Sock Hop on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the Surf Ballroom.

The band opened last year's Winter Dance Party, which was a tribute to the 35th anniversary of the Mad Hatter's Tea Party. The Whitesidewalls also opened the show in 1979.

The Surf Ballroom's annual commemorative event honors the musical legacies of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson, who died in a plane crash just after playing at the Surf in February 1959. More information on the history of the event is available at www.surfballroom.com

The sock hop, which is a separate ticket from the Winter Dance Party, begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10, available at the Surf Box Office or at the door. A limited number of tickets remain for the Winter Dance Party Jan. 29-31.
