Peggy Bang with her book, “The Melson House Revealed — An Owner’s Perspective.”

MASON CITY — Peggy Bang of Mason City will give a lecture on "Rock Crest Rock Glen and its Link to Castlecrag, Australia" at noon Wednesday, Jan. 25, in the Robert E. McCoy Architectural Interpretive Center, 530 First St. N.E., Mason City.

Bang will talk on the connection of Walter Burley Griffin’s Rock Crest Rock Glen residential development in Mason City to the one he and Marion Mahony Griffin developed in Castlecrag, Australia.

Bang visited Castlecrag, which was built in the 1920s on property purchased by the Griffins. It had sandstone as its natural resource versus the limestone that is found in Mason City.

The Griffins built roads through the sandstone following the contours of the shoreline to create their subdivision. Bang will show slides of Castlecrag homes that echo designs found in Rock Crest Rock Glen homes, including that of her and her husband, Roger.

The lecture is sponsored by River City Society for Historic Preservation. Seating is limited.
