CLEAR LAKE — "Stories and Song with Paul Asaro" will be at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, in E.B. Stillman Auditorium, 1601 Third Ave. N., Clear Lake.
The concert is presented by the Clear Lake Area Concert Association (CLACA).
Asaro is known as one of the finest of a select group of pianists who still perform the demanding, two-handed jazz and ragtime piano styles from the first half of the 20th century. The Stride piano of Fats Waller, the New Orleans styles of Jelly Roll Morton, the ragtime of Scott Joplin and Eubie Blake, boogie woogie and swing, Asaro plays them all with an ear for detail, blending the elements into his own personal style.
He has toured extensively, and has appeared onscreen with Vince Giordano’s band in HBO’s series “Boardwalk Empire.” When not on the road, Asaro performs weekly with the “The Fat Babies” jazz band at the Chicago club, The Green Mill.
Admission is on a membership basis. Season memberships are $45 for adults, $15 for students, and $95 for a family, available at the door, the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, the Clear Lake Arts Center, or by calling 641-357-6518.
CLACA members can also attend additional concerts through a reciprocal arrangement with the Albert Lea Civic Music Association, the Kossuth County Concert Association in Algona, the Mitchell County Concert Association in Osage, and the Waldorf Community Artist Series in Forest City.
