New Horizons Band

MASON CITY — The New Horizons Band will present its annual Holiday concert at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, at the Music Man Square, 308 S. Pennsylvania Ave.

The concert is free and open to the public.

The band will present a varied concert. Selections will include: "Christmas Declaration," Robert W. Smith; "Festive Dances" (Mvt. I, II, 1I1), Robert Thurston; "Exultia," David A. Eastmond; "On The Wings Of Swallows," Michael Sweeney; "Continental Overture," David Gorham; "The Toymaker's Workshop," Rebecca Jarvis; "Longtown Legacy," Cedric Adderly.

The first New Horizons Band was founded in 1991, sponsored by the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, New York. Today, affiliate bands number more than 208 throughout the United States, Ireland and Canada.

The New Horizons Band at Music Man Square started in 2004 with seven members, and now has approximately 50 members.

Adult players of all ages are welcome to join. Rehearsals for the full band are on Wednesdays, with an optional small group rehearsal on Tuesdays. The first rehearsal for the spring session will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4.

Bernie Bjorklund, long-time band director in the Nora Springs schools, leads the New Horizons Band.
