MASON CITY | There is a new way of bringing art to North Iowans with the formation of an artists-owned gallery, "Art On the Plaza," located in Bergo's Mini Mall.
There will be a special opening from noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 20 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 21 at the gallery, located at 11 S. Federal Ave. on the downtown plaza, where artists will display and sell their work.
"We have some incredibly talented artists who will be part of the new artist-owned gallery," co-founder Pamala Bergo Coffey said in describing the new art venture. "Now the public can come visit the artist and learn more about the art itself."
The venue includes artists who organized the gallery and will work there: Nancy Bainter, Gloria Beeman, Coffey, Peggy Cornick, Emily Kiewel, Gretchen King, Laura Nicholson, Marg Richards, Chris White-Rozendaal, Jo Anne Willemsen and Christina Blum.
Other artists with works in the gallery include Dee Fredericks, Brenda Nesheim-Fuller, Tim Fuller, Jim Kerns, Becky Kyhl, Tonja Ihlenfeldt, Terry Johnston, Sandra Quintus, Craig Kienast, Meagan Steinberg, Linda Sorensen and Wendy Kuhl.
There will be a grand opening from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28.
Following the grand opening, the gallery will have regular hours in December, from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.
"We are passionate about art, and excited to have a special place to promote artists and the arts in downtown Mason City," Coffey said.
