MASON CITY | Una Vocis Choral Ensemble will present its spring concert, Eternal Bloom, at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave.
Eternal Bloom celebrates the American heritage of early Shaker music and shape-note singing, and feature arrangements by more contemporary composers.
The choir performs under the direction of Dennis Lee, artistic director. NordKor, a newly-formed youth choir under the Una Vocis organization, will also perform.
The concert opens with "Unclouded Day" and "Angel Band" (arr. Kirchner), followed by "Hark, I Hear the Harps Eternal" (arr. Parker), and "Webster" and "McKay" (Barnett). The audience and choir will engage in a brief shape-note singing exercise, followed by "Long Time Trav’ling" (arr. Betinis).
The second half opens with "Pretty Saro" (arr. Keller) for men’s voices, "Each Morning She Walks" (Silvestri) and "O Sing to Me of Heaven" (Kobs).
NordKor, under Una Vocis vocal coach Melissa Shallberg, will perform "Oh! Susanna" (Printz), and join with Una Vocis for the Shaker hymn "Simple Gifts" (arr. Clausen).
Una Vocis will continue with a suite of simple Shaker songs and a Shaker anthem, "I Hunger and Thirst" (arr. Siegfried), followed by"Hallelujah" (Kirchner).
