Mason City 200 freestyle relay 20th at state

MARSHALLTOWN — The Mason City girls 200 freestyle relay team closed out its season Saturday with a 20th-place showing in Saturday’s state swimming meet.

The team of Madison Braun, Paige Braun, Marley Hagerty and Nia Litterer, which came in with the 24th-fastest qualifying time, touched the wall in 1 minute, 43.6 seconds. It was nearly half a second improvement on their season best.

"It was great swimming by the Mason City Mohawks," Mason City coach Steve Hugo said. "We'll get back next year in more events."

WALDORF FOOTBALLThe Warriors defeated Presentation College 41-33 on Saturday.

Presentation College kicked things off with a 43-yard touchdown run on the second play of the game, but the Warriors tied it up after an 88 yard-drive ending with a 30-yard pass to Samuel Huntley for TD, 7-7.

The Saints would go on to make two 37-yard field goals in the first quarter, and the Warriors scored on a touchdown run by Hilton Joseph to make it 14-10.

The Saints would close the half with the lead, 16-14 after a 33-yard field goal.

The Warriors took it from there in the second half. Cameron Newsome added two receiving touchdowns in the third quarter, limiting the Saints to another field goal to make it 27-19.

The Saints had a chance to tie it up in the fourth quarter, scoring on an 11-yard run by Austin Eggl to narrow the lead 27-25. But the Warriors would take their time with an 80-yard drive ending with a Ryan Harrison touchdown reception to make it 34-25.
