Leland Howard Mikkelsen

Clear Lake – Leland Howard Mikkelsen, 96 of Clear Lake, died Monday, November 6, 2017, at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 9, 2017, at Oakwood Care Center, 400 US-18, Clear Lake, with Pastor Rhea Evanson officiating. Inurnment will be at Clear Lake Cemetery at a later date.

Leland was born May 1, 1921, the son of Lauritz and Annie E. (Jorgensen) Mikkelsen in Clear Lake. He married Corinne Brunner on July 18, 1970, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mason City.

Leland grew up and attended school in Thornton. He was a United States Army veteran, serving three and a half years during World War II. Following school and the Army, he began farming and also worked in the Mason City area for many years prior to moving to California. After almost 20 years in California, he and Corinne returned to Thornton in April, 1994.

Leland was a member of the American Legion and Lions Club of Thornton. He enjoyed woodworking, stained glass projects, traveling in his RV, and was an avid golfer.

Leland is survived by his wife, Corinne of Clear Lake; two daughters, Judi A. Kennedy of Idaho and June Mikkelsen of California; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Kolb of Mason City and Gerda Hartwell of Charles City; a step-daughter, Renee Buenting of Germany; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Carrie Peters, Lillian Ell (twin), Elsie McMenimen, and Florence; and a brother, George.

MASON CITY: Mary I. Reed, 88, of Mason City, IA, and formerly of Marble Rock, IA, died Monday, November 6, 2017, at the IOOF Home. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 AM on Thursday, November 9, 2017, at Faith Baptist Church, 1807 S. Kentucky, with Pastor Tim Moore and Pastor Greg Gosnell officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Interment will take place at the Westside Cemetery in Marble Rock.

Mary was born August 29, 1929, in Long Beach, CA, the daughter of Walter and Ruth (Volker) Griswold. She graduated from Marble Rock High School in 1947, and continued her education at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, IA. She then taught country school for a few years before being united in marriage to Lloyd Reed in Marble Rock on June 30, 1949. Mary enjoyed serving the Lord. She also enjoyed being a homemaker, traveling, meeting new people and Bible reading. She served at RGBI for 40 years. Mary was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Mary is survived by her children: Wilma Traeger and husband Ernest of Havana, IL, Beth Ott and husband Dave of Marble Rock and Donna Hart and husband Wayne of West Clarksville, NY; 11 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; sister: Grace Ogburn of Reasner, IA; and 2 that called her “grandma”: A.J. Stice of Marble Rock and Matt Losee of Charles City, IA. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband Lloyd.

Clear Lake – Timothy Alan Entner, 57 of Clear Lake, died Friday, October 27, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Mary's Campus in Rochester, MN.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 10, 2017, at Harvest Bible Church, 2200 N. 24th St., Clear Lake, with Pastor John Tank officiating. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 9, 2017, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake.

Tim was born on July 27,1960 in Milwaukee, WI, the eldest son to Dale and Phyllis (Gourley) Entner. He grew up and attended school in Fort Madison, IA, graduating in 1978.

Tim moved to Clear Lake after graduating high school and began running Sunset Bay Marina with his father Dale. He worked in the marina business for many years, owning Lake Dock & Hoist, before selling it in later years to continue to assist in the operations of Sunset Bay Marina.

He married Sue Bell on September 7, 2002, in Clear Lake. He was very influential in his children's lives. He and Mike spent many hours working on and enjoying different cars, motorcycles and snowmobiles together. He was very dedicated and supportive in the dance and sports activities Alexis was involved in throughout her middle school and high school years. He continued to influence both Alexis and Mike and supported them in their chosen career paths, sharing his wisdom into the business world.

Having experienced various medical issues throughout his life, he was an advocate for both adults and children, volunteering at the Victory Junction Camp in Randleman, NC, after his second kidney transplant in 2006. He also went on to volunteer at Camp Hertko Hollow in Boone, IA, a camp for children with diabetes. He was also very involved at Harvest Bible Chapel Clear Lake where he was a member.

Tim was an adventurous man who always enjoyed the outdoors; riding motorcycles, snowmobiles and racing stock cars in Mason City, as well going off-road and attending Jeep Jamborees in his Jeep. He enjoyed all these activities with his wife, children and grandchildren over the years.

Tim is survived by his wife, Sue of Clear Lake; two children, Mike (Jessica) Entner of Nevada, IA and Alexis Entner of Miami, FL; two grandchildren, Aidan and Sadie Entner of Nevada; and two brothers, Mark Entner of Mason City and Jeff (Jennifer) Entner of San Diego, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

LaVerne was born October 15, 1926, in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Roy and Ella (Gust) Lindgren. She graduated from St. Louis Park High School in 1944. On May 29, 1946, LaVerne married LuVerne “Vern” O. Zilge in St. Louis Park, MN. LaVerne and Vern moved to Mason City in 1968, opened and operated Zilge's Appliance Center and continued to operate their store until they retired in 1990. LaVerne was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed bridge, volunteering at church, Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa, West Campus, Music Man Square and KCMR. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she belonged to church circle.

LaVerne is survived by her children: Susan (Steven) Wittwer of Minneapolis and Larry (Kathy) Zilge of Mason City; 5 grandchildren: Paul (Ashley) Schutz, Kris (Sara) Zilge, Ryan (Jannah) Wittwer, Tina (John) Rudolph and Dillon Burnett; 9 great grandchildren; brother: Roy (Terry) Lindgren; and sister-in-law: Marlys Hunter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2008; daughter: Janet (Tom) Burnett; brother: Gerald Lindgren; and sister-in-law: Rosie (John) Kucheska and brother-in-law: Donald Hunter.
