CLEAR LAKE | A Dows man was arrested in Clear Lake early New Year's Day for driving while intoxicated after law enforcement said he lost control of his vehicle.
An Iowa State Patrol trooper stopped Zachary Joseph Thurn, 23, about 2:30 a.m. near Fourth Avenue South and South Eighth Street for not having a front license plate.
As the trooper caught up to Thurn's vehicle, charging documents say the vehicle spun out of control while turning east on Fourth Avenue South.
Thurn had vomit on his jeans and driver's side door and smelled strongly of alcohol, according to court documents.
He agreed to breath testing, which revealed a .206 blood alcohol content, the criminal complaint said. Iowa's legal limit is .08.
Thurn was charged with operating under while under the influence — first offense — and failure to display a registration plate.
He was transported into the Cerro Gordo County Jail and was later released on his own recognizance.
He is scheduled to appear in Cerro Gordo County District Court Jan. 19.
