The West Hancock girls defeated the Rockford Warriors 56-18 on Thursday, Dec. 21.
The Eagles took quick control in the first racking up 22 points to the Warriors’ two. The second quarter set a slower pace, but the Eagles maintained the lead with a 31-9 score at halftime.
The third quarter would be much like the first as the shots started to fall, adding 16 points. The defense would hold the Warriors to just a free-throw as they finally reached the double digits, making it 47-10. West Hancock would finish on a 9-8 run in the fourth for a final score of 56-18.
Senior Kelly Leerar led the Eagles going 6-for-11 from the field and 4-for-8 from the perimeter for 16 points.
Freshman Rachel Leerar wasn’t far behind going 5-for-12 and 1-for-4 for 12 points. Leerar also led the team on defense with eight steals.
Sophomore Amanda Chizek was the third top-scorer going 4-for-5 from the field and making one 3-pointer for 11 points. Chizek led the team with eight total rebounds.
The Eagles resumed action against Belmond-Klemme at home on Jan. 2, but scores weren’t available at press time.
