The fifth-ranked (1A) West Hancock girls basketball team was handed its first loss Friday night in a 63-52 defeat at No. 15 (2A) North Union.

The game was tied 16-16 after a quarter before the Warriors outscored the Eagles 38-23 over the next two quarters. By the fourth, it was too late for the Eagles to mount a comeback.

Prior to the loss, the Eagles picked up their fourth win of the season Dec. 5 with a 67-22 drubbing of Garner-Hayfield-Ventura.

West Hancock, which opened the first quarter with a 27-5 lead, had three players finish in double figures. Amanda Chizek led the way with a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, Kelly Leerar had 16 points and six assists, and Rachel Leerar added 15 points, four assists and four steals. Additionally, Madison Eisenman scored eight points, Riley Hiscocks had four, and Mahayla Faust and Sydney Burgardt had three apiece. Burgardt added five rebounds and four steals.
