After earning its second Top of Iowa Conference West Division win a week prior – a 7-1 victory over Belmond-Klemme on June 7 – the West Hancock baseball team fell short in a pair of conference games as the Eagles were handed an 8-2 loss to Eagle Grove last Wednesday and fell to Lake Mills 7-0 on Monday, June 12.
Against Eagle Grove, West Hancock scored a run in each of the first two innings but was unable to build on it.
Caleb Eckels finished 2 for 4 at the plate with a double and an RBI, Nick Hunt had a single and an RBI, and Dylan Eckels was 2 for 3 with a double. Additionally, Gavin Becker, Glen Smith and Ben Eisenman each added a single.
Jordan Weiland took the loss on the mound after allowing eight runs – four earned – on five hits while striking out three and walking three in five innings.
In the loss vs. Lake Mills, Smith, Hunt and Becker each recorded a single as the Eagles finished with three hits for the game.
Becker was hit with the loss as he struck out four and walked one while allowing one earned run on two hits.
