We have in this community several groups that do a lot for the city and the citizens within. The city council and I would like to thank two of those groups for the jobs they have done this year.
One group is the Britt Hobo Days Committee. There are many people in that group and they all have worked hard to bring us another National Hobo Convention last month. We want to thank each one on that committee as well as congratulate you for the celebration you put together. As mayor, I thought the concerts were well attended and appreciated, the parade was another fine one, the mulligan stew was terrific, and I know the hoboes enjoyed the week's activities. The Hobo Jungle entertainment was great again this year and it was nice to see so many old friends again. I always hope for more local people to attend the coronation of the King and Queen but the majority of those at that event are usually from out of town. We did have another out of country documentary group here this year so the international recognition continues and we can be very proud of that as well. Again, Hobo Committee, thank you for a job well done.
We also want to give thanks and congratulations the Britt Draft Horse Board and all those who helped put on another enjoyable and successful show this Labor Day weekend. I know it is a year-round job to get everything ready for an event such as the Britt Draft Horse Show. You make all those that bring hitches and attend the show feel welcomed and appreciated. There is a reason why so many hitches like to come to this show and that reason is that your group does a super job in preparation and organization and just plain old hospitality. This year was the 31st annual event and I know the number of hours many of you have invested in the "show" would be mind-boggling. You bring a very special king of people into our city for this event and they do much more for us than just put on a few hours of shows during the weekend. Thank you very much, Britt Draft Horse Board, for all you do.
Sincerely, Mayor Jim Nelson and the Britt City Council
