Are you one of the eight percent?

Researchers tell us that only eight percent of people succeed in keeping their New Year’s Resolutions. How is the New Year’s Resolution thing going for you, one month into the new year?

Most of us, 92 percent in fact, will be frustrated, disillusioned and disappointed in ourselves by now. But take heart. All of us have, because of sin, “fallen short of God’s glorious ideal” for us. (Romans 3:23) But God, in His amazing grace, has a solution for us!

In 2 Peter 1:3-4 we read of amazingly good news when it comes to changing our behavior:

“God's divine power has given us everything we need to live a truly religious life through our knowledge of the one who called us to share in his own glory and goodness. In this way he has given us the very great and precious gifts he promised, so that by means of these gifts you may escape from the destructive lust that is in the world, and may come to share the divine nature.”

Amazing! We have divine resources available to us to enable us to become more and more like Jesus!

Peter then astonishes us by going on to say that we have a role to play in appropriating these divine resources so that we may be transformed! We read from verses 5-8, “For this very reason do your best to add GOODNESS to your FAITH; to your goodness add KNOWLEDGE; to your knowledge add SELF-CONTROL; to your self-control add ENDURANCE; to your endurance add GODLINESS; to your godliness add CHRISTIAN AFFECTION; and to your Christian affection add LOVE. These are the qualities you need, and if you have them in abundance, they will make you active and effective in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Here is the solution to “Resolution Victory”: Be reconciled to God through faith in Jesus and you will have available to you divine resources to enable you to grow more like Jesus.

But, to access and appropriate these divine resources, you will need to cooperate with God by becoming more available to Him and usable by Him. This we do by adding the qualities listed to our life and conduct.

Do you wish to live a more faithful and fruitful life in 2018? It’s not too late to resolve to add these qualities: FAITH, GOODNESS, KNOWLEDGE, SELF-CONTROL, ENDURANCE, GODLINESS, CHRISTIAN AFFECTION, and LOVE. God’s word assures us that if we have these qualities in abundance, we will become more “active and affective” in 2018.

Be Blessed to Be a Blessing!
