A funeral mass for Jim Meurer was held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wesley. Visitation was held one hour prior to funeral mass.
James Robert Meurer was born on July 30, 1931, in Wesley, the son of J.T. and Josephine (Brass) Meurer. He attended St. Joseph Catholic School until the eighth grade and then graduated from Wesley High School.
Jim worked on a friend’s farm until he entered the Air Force on March 15, 1951. He was honorably discharged on June 1, 1953.
Jim returned to the area and worked at the lumberyard in LuVerne for about 20 years and then worked at the Wesley lumberyard for a short time. Jim was always known as a handy man around town. If Steinman Roofing needed an extra hand, he was always there to help.
Jim was a modest man and appreciated the simple things in life. This was reflected in the activities he enjoyed most: fishing, farming and dogs.
Jim died Monday, April 10, 2017, at the Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
He is survived by his sister, Cheryll Vogel of Lohrville; two nieces; two nephews; three great-nieces; four great-nephews; three great-great-nephews and three great-great-nieces and special friends Dwight and Ruth Rasmussen and their family.
Preceding him in death are his parents, J.T. and Jo Meurer and brother-in-law, Donald Vogel.
