Westview Veterans program

BRITT | More than 30 Westview Care Center residents, staff and visitors gathered Thursday, Nov. 9, to honor and recognize veterans.

A program honored care center residents and veterans:

  •  Edwin Beenken, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served during Vietnam.
  •  Eugene Berhow, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served during Vietnam.
  •  Wilbur Courtney, a U.S. Air Force veteran who served in World War II and the Korean War as a line chief/mechanic.
  •  James Eden, U.S. Army National Guard veteran.
  •  Roger Graber, a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean War.
  •  Joseph Medlin, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served during Vietnam.
  •  Donald Meyer, a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.
  •  Bernard Pannkuk, a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II in England, Germany and France during the Normandy invasion.
  •  Robert Schisel, a U.S. Army veteran who served during Vietnam.
  •  Harry Smith, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served during the Korean War.
  •  William Spencer, a U.S. Army veteran who served during Vietnam.

During the program, Sandy Shear, Westview Care Center admissions coordinator, read a letter written sent by a man who was in the service to his wife on May 25, 1968, and Jerry Christensen, finance officer for Britt American Legion Post 315, read two poems and played Taps for the residents.

“God bless our veterans and God bless America,” he said.

Residents and visitors were invited to enjoy pie, ice cream, apple cider and coffee during a reception after the program.
