KANAWHA | The West Hancock Community School Board has selected its president and vice president for 2017-18.

Ryan Johnson will serve as president, and Ryan Hiscocks will be vice president, after the School Board voted by paper ballot Monday, Sept. 18, during its annual meeting at the West Hancock Middle School in Kanawha.

“Congratulations,” Johnson said. “It’s the Ryan show from now on.”

Johnson was first elected to the School Board in 2011. He is in his second term, which expires in 2019.

Hiscocks is in his first term on the board. He was elected in 2015.

The board selects its leaders annually.

The meeting was the first for newly elected Angie Johnson, who ran unopposed in District 1, on Sept. 12. She took the seat of Gary Chizek, who didn’t seek reelection. Incumbents Jay Burgardt and Jon Harle were also elected for District 3 and at-large seats, respectively.

Also during the meeting, the School Board:

  • Requested modified allowable growth for about $109,747 for special-education deficit from the 2016-17 school year.
  • Approved an agreement between West Hancock and Piper Jaffray to begin refinancing process of the local option sales tax bond used for the geothermal system at the High School.
  • Approved the $2,700 bid from KR Construction for the prep work for the Middle School playground equipment.
  • Approved the nearly $3,643 bid from the Trading Post of Glenville, Minnesota, for a stop saw for the shop. The saw will be funded through the Perkins grant.
