BRITT — For the first time in 15 years, a student from the West Hancock High School Band has received the highest individual honor available to Iowa high school musicians.

Grace Rosin, daughter of Willie and Jennifer Rosin of Britt, will perform at the 71st annual Iowa All-State Festival Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, at Hilton Coliseum, Iowa State University, in Ames.

Rosin is a ninth-grader at West Hancock who plays the bassoon under the direction of her mother.

District auditions for the 281-piece band, 201-piece orchestra and 601-member chorus were held Oct. 21 in Storm Lake, Hampton, Independence, Atlantic, Indianola and Washington. About 17 percent of the students who auditioned for the festival were selected for one of the ensembles.

Participants will audition for chair placement on Thursday, Nov. 16, in Ames. The ensembles will rehearse Nov. 17 and 18 ahead of their public performance.

Concert tickets are $22, plus fees, and are available through Ticketmaster.
