BRITT | West Hancock High School is having a Coaches vs. Cancer Night from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, during the home varsity basketball games vs. Forest City.
A silent auction with sports memorabilia, handmade items, homemade cinnamon rolls and cheesecakes will be held to raise money for the American Cancer Society for cancer research.
Local Hancock County Relay For Life teams will have tables of bake sale items available for purchase.
Donation baskets will be passed during the games for the “47 Second Drill." In Iowa, someone is diagnosed with cancer every 47 seconds.
Cancer survivor Gary Gjerstad will share thoughts about his recent cancer journey.
Personalized Cancer Honor Cards will be available all week for a cost of $1. These cards will be displayed on the wall to honor/remember those who have fought cancer.
Everyone is being challenged to make the “West Hancock 3 Point Pledge” by signing up to donate an amount of their choosing for each 3-point basket scored by the West Hancock boys and girls basketball teams on Friday.
The girls team will be wearing their pink uniforms that evening,
The West Hancock Elementary and Middle Schools have been having “coin wars” throughout the week.
Coaches vs. Cancer T-shirts have been sold.
