BRITT — For years, two Britt restaurants have made sure area residents aren’t spending Thanksgiving Day alone or without a traditional home-cooked meal.
And this year is no different.
On Thursday, Nov. 23, Mary Jo’s Hobo House and Catering will offer its traditional Thanksgiving buffet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for its 24th year.
“There’s a lot of people who have nowhere to go, so this way people have some place to sit down and have a nice meal,” said Mary Jo Hughes, who has owned the business for more than 20 years. “It’s good for our family, too, who works it.”
The buffet will feature three types of meat, all the trimmings and dessert for $13.99. Reservations are required. To make a reservation, call 641-843-3840.
This year, the Titanium Lunchbox in Britt and Kanawha took orders until Monday, Nov. 20, for Thanksgiving meals to be delivered or picked up at the restaurant.
Damon Baker, who owns both restaurants with his wife, Karin, started cooking and selling the meals two years ago to serve individuals and families who may not be celebrating or cooking on Thanksgiving or Christmas, and this year, with the opening of the Titanium Lunchbox in Kanawha, they decided to extend the offering, especially since they’ve had residents express interest.
“I’m willing to try anything,” he said.
Last year, the Titanium Lunchbox cooked Thanksgiving meals for about 60 people, Baker said.
The Thanksgiving meals consisted of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, salad, cranberries and a piece of pie for $10.
Pick-up and delivery is from 10:30 a.m. to noon in Britt, and 12:30 to 2 p.m. in Kanawha.
The Titanium Lunchbox will offer a similar option on Christmas Day. For more information about the meal, call 641-843-4600.
