BRITT | The Britt Fire Department has purchased 12 self-contained breathing apparatuses thanks to money it’s received from the Hancock County Foundation.
Within the past two years, the volunteer department has received more than $10,000 from the Hancock County Foundation to replace its individual air packs and cylinders.
The cylinders come with a 15-year warranty. Britt Fire Chief Jon Swenson said this is the third time the department has replaced the units since he joined in 1978.
Swenson said the units provide oxygen to firefighters when they respond to a fire.
“To have (the Hancock County Foundation funding) is huge to assist with the budget throughout the year,” he said. “It helps fund over half our budget for the year.”
